Kompany confident of top-four place

Man City skipper Vincent Kompany says the Blues are still on track for a place in the top four following Thursday night’s 0-0 derby draw with United.

City enjoyed the lion’s share of both possession and chances and had a late goal from substitute Gabriel Jesus ruled out for offside.

The result leaves Pep Guardiola’s side in fourth place in the Premier League table, a point behind third-placed Liverpool with a game in hand and a point clear of fifth-placed United with five league matches left in the season.

But with three of those at the Etihad, Kompany – who produced a superb individual display – insists City are well placed to go on and seal their place in next season’s Champions League.

And he believes City are a fraction away from becoming a real force to be reckoned with.

"We got a point - it's not so bad but we never felt like the game was difficult or they were a threat," said the Belgium defender.

"It's happened a lot this season - good games but just not the result.

“We just need to finish things off.

“We created chances we had a lot of the ball but its not falling on the right side for us.

“We just lacked a bit of edge to bury the game.

“But, of course, we are still confident we make the top four.

“There’s nothing in the performance that needs to worry us. We’re not far away from really clicking and being an extremely powerful side.

“At this level though its all about small percentages and we’re just a bit short tonight.”

Kompany showed all his experience and composure to deal with the pace on the break of United strikers Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial and showed that he is back to his commanding best at the heart of the City defence.

“Rashford and Martial have got so much ability and such a bright future ahead,” Kompany added.

"They are lightning quick and with a bit more experience can cause a lot more trouble.

“But hopefully my experience was able to help a little bit out there.”
